Why horseback riding is not a sport
So, what is left to prove? Take a lesson with me, and of course your upper thigh will hurt, but your abs will hurt for days. Try to lift up a horse, set him on his haunch, keep him straight — only using your legs, and then squeeze the dickens out of him to try to get him over a jump. Ask professional equestrians about their injuries; the list will be too long for most people to remember. So if riding is not your hobby, if riding is your sport and some one makes fun of you: Smile.
Remember, you are an athlete. You have a coach. You have a teammate. You sweat, you work, and you have a game day strategy. You wear a helmet for a reason. Then, ask them if you can have a piggy back ride… and try not to break their ribs. Like you said, you just have to smile and know it in your own heart!
Depending on what the comment is, I might just ignore or I might say something. At our academy where we are starting new riders in horse riding lessons we add another level of fitness. This is when you have a team of 2 riders and one horse.
Its a nice activity for young riders who have been sitting in school all day to get out and get moving. Agree with what you say and with the other comments posted. Riding IS a sport. Some people just need to see that. Ok so riding takes flexibility, agility, high pain tolerance, determination and more. An you have probably never even been on a horse before.
You probably play football or some other pointless sport like that. Both equestrian and football were introduced for the second modern Olympics in Although the ancient olympic games one-day event started hundreds of years prior. This included an equestrian discipline, in the form of chariot racing. Oh and good luck keeping him in frame. So basiclly if you sweat at your riding lessons or whatever else you do,riding is a sport.
Go Equestrians!!!! I take horseback riding as a sport because well, like in football or soccer there are competitions. Well like in those sports in horseback riding there are also competitions.
Today, horses as well as other livestock animals, are being also used in rodeo show aside from cattle that were bred for their strength and agility.

IHSA is an organization whose members are newbie riders that are preparing for a competition that they wanted to be in. They are being enrolled here so they will have the chance to enhance their skills by riding different horses in every semester allowing them to cope up and adapt to the skills and strength of every horse.
After a lot of training, IHSA member will be evaluated based on his or her performance, and with this, they can be able to go outside and compete in different zones and levels. In here, riders steer their horses around several obstacle courses either man-made or not, and they simply jump over those courses without making a single mistake or else, the safety of the horse and the rider will be at risk.

Horse-backing is not a passive activity of just sitting there like riding a donkey. Some people imagine that horse-backing involves just sitting there, which is not true. The fact is; sitting on a horse idle will not generate any exciting movement. We create impulsion and regulate strides to help the horse to balance.
Riding horses is therefore more involving that most people would assume. Many new comers and horse lovers who want to own horses are quick to rush into it without considering the long-term financial implications. The fact is you will be investing as much as you would with your car expenses. The cost of owning a horse is equivalent to a regular car. Horse-backing is a physically intense sport with muscle tension and bruises just like many other common sporting activities.
You stand a chance to grow physically stronger if you become a serious rider. You will build your core strength, upper body, and leg strength. Horses need a specific language of which you will have to learn and practice until you can communicate effectively. Different horses from different environments have varying capabilities. Not all horses are designed to sport. The best sporting horses are cross-breeds of the largest, fastest, and strongest breeds. Others are cute and mostly inactive, as they do not have the muscle strength and speed to compete with the rest. The debate in support of horse-riding as a sport is not easy.
The reason is that most people have little knowledge of what entails to ride a horse. They deem it as simple and uninvolving rather than an active act of physical competitiveness. To such people, it would be important to get them close enough so that they experience firsthand attachment to sporting horses. They will realize it requires a lot of skill, physical strength, and most importantly; long hours of training to get it right.
