I guess all go with Gladiator since it's mildly entertaining, even if I don't care for it much. Darkmaigle Member. Oct 25, 5, Gotta update to directors cut of kingdom of heaven. Oct 27, I adore Kingdom of Heaven but in terms of sheer epicness i vote for gladiator.
Also imo Alexander was shit and doesnt deserve to be in that list. Count of Monte Sawed-Off Member. Braveheart used to be my favorite movie. And I still like parts of it the music, the scenery , but it hasn't aged well. I've never really liked Gladiator. Kingdom of Heaven is alright, but I've always felt the DC is overrated.
I've never seen Alexander all the way through. The gore in the Troy DC is something to behold, and Achilles and the Myrmidons taking the beach is a great scene, but I'm not sure about how I feel about the movie as a whole.

Oct 25, 1, Kingdom of Heaven director's cut is the best out of those. Kingdom of Heaven theatrical is the worst. Cruxist Avenger. Oct 27, 1, Gladiator is the only option. Younger me enjoyed Troy, but I haven't seen it in years at this point. Watched Gladiator earlier this year. Bricktop Attempted to circumvent ban with an alt account Banned.
Oct 27, 2, I'd say Braveheart is probably the best, but Gladiator is easily my favorite. El-Suave Member. Oct 27, 4, Gladiator is my pick.
Such a crowd pleaser. It seems like Mel Gibson connected a lot more with his character than did Russell Crowe, which is what made Braveheart seem like a more believable story.
As far as the story line goes, I think that Braveheart is better in this category as well. I also agree with Mike, Bre, Kelly and Janet about the digital effects and how they kind of change the impact of the film. When watching Braveheart, I believed that the scenery was real. I agree with Janet about how William Wallace is a better hero because he is helping the Scottish people, while avenging his wife at the same time.
Gladiator is fighting for himself. The scene in Braveheart that convinced me of how great a hero Wallace is, was before the first battle with the English. Kristine Victor said this on December 8, at pm Reply.
Braveheart was the start of the wave of epics and gladiator was just a rip off that. The performance style favors William and his dialogue seemed a lot better rehearsed. William Wallace was a better hero cause he was fighting for a country of people and not just for himself.
The storylines between the two are awfully similar and raise some red flags. Gladiator is simply a mediocre attempt at remaking Braveheart. Shay said this on December 8, at pm Reply. I personally liked the digital effects of the Sun and clouds showing symbolism in-between scenes, Such as the heavens and death "the field". One of the arguments above was that ""In Braveheart, William Wallace stands up and risks his life for the liberty of the Scottish.
Janet Early failed to realize Maximus is doing the same thing. He fought not for revenge but under the kings orders to save the people. Kris Sheehy said this on December 8, at pm Reply. Maximus experienced much more grief then William Wallace, due to his position as a highly renowned Roman General with a loving wife, a son, and not being home for over two years.
Maximus experienced betrayal, grief, and was stripped of his honor as a Roman General at the hands of a tyrant for merely not supporting Commodus. This downfall struck a much deeper blow for Maximus, vs. Wallace who knew the risk he was taking by marrying his wife illegally, and ended up loosing her. The greater downfall paves the path for the Epic Hero to rise and become reborn.
In this case, Maximus goes from a respected Roman General, with a family, to a mere slave fighting impossible odds constantly in order to stay alive. The fact that Wallace and his wife were together for the entire time up until her death makes it hard to feel sorry for Wallace when comparing him to Maximus on that department. To me, the fact that Maximus was just about to head home after not seeing his loved for so long makes it a lot more upsetting.
Maximus fights for Rome and its people. In terms of his struggles, Maximus faces countless situations where the odds are greatly stacked against him, such as that fight prior to his journey to Rome where Maximus dueled atleast 5 other gladiators at once, with merely a short sword.
This is merely one example of the many fights where the odds are stacked against him. Joe Radziszewski said this on December 8, at pm Reply. I believe Maximus is a better hero. Also i feel like he has more to fight for because he is a slave and his son and wife got killed. I know that in Bravehart his wife got killed but i feel that maxumus wants it more.
I agree with bre and rebecca when she says that it was hard to connect with Russell Crowe in the scene when he found out his family was crucified. Also i agree with Joe with Maximus experienced much more grief then William Wallace, due to his position as a highly renowned Roman General with a loving wife, a son, and not being home for over two years.
Maximus experienced betrayal, grief, and was stripped of his honor as a Roman General. So overall i believe Maximus is the better hero. Marsha11 Pegg said this on December 8, at pm Reply. I feel William Wallace of Braveheart was a better hero in a better epic film compared to Maximus of Gladiator. I feel Wallace represented an epic film hero more so then Maximus because of the more old style look and his accent. And although each hero fought for revenge; I feel Wallace showed more emotion.
Yeah unfortunately and this is our first one since ET versus Gizmo where both cute little puppets hugged each other until they each died. Look — I knew this would be a close battle but I had no idea how close it would turn out to be. I grew up loving both and although I would have said Gladiator was the better movie in my younger days, Braveheart is the far superior movie in my humble opinion now. Maybe new series like Spartacus spoiled the theme of Gladiator with their over-the-top spectacular action scenes and riveting storylines, or maybe Gibson just made a damn good movie — either way Braveheart is better.
Maximus had to fight for his life on a daily basis against lions, arrow wielding marksmen, and outnumbered 10 to 1. Even when stabbed and bleeding to death he was able to crush Commodus. Wallace would have no chance against Maximus! Er, I beg to differ. Watch the first clip of my arguement on the other side. Both are very cool, Wallace and Maximus.
There's just something more I would think that Maximus would take down William just because he had better training even tho they both where famous generals of war ,but he doesn't seem to be fighting as much in the movie as William did. I think that roam would have been much worse for a slave knowing that you are not important and you could die any day; he was so well trained that he could withstand all brutal battles he faced. Maximus lead one of the largest Army's in the history of mankind.
William Wallace lead a bunch of hooligan's who were not professionally trained warriors. There is no comparison, Maximus' troops were better prepared, more strategic, and superior to the Scots. That aside, I'm curious what makes you feel that a movie kicks more ass based on the power of the army featured? Or is this debate about who's army would win? I think not. It's about the movie. And manly kick ass movies. And which manly kick ass movie kicks more ass.
