At the break in the ladder, hop to the left to land on the first platform. If you have a safe moment, you can then sprint jump to go right over the next Spark to land on the large platform in the middle. From there, sprint-jump to the left and press up at the end of the jump to grab one of the ladders.
You should be able to skip the first couple of ladders. Unlock the pyramid in the upper-right corner, then go to the lower-right corner. Face to the left to block the incoming tiles.
You may want to turn up to block the tile that is directly above you, but otherwise, keep your shield to the left. When they have all been destroyed, hop across the pit to the left and go up to get the Small Key. Go through the doorway to the NE and hop over the two Sparks as they come down the hallway. Get over to the statue and toss it at the door to the left to break it open. Proceed through it to enter a room with more chess pieces. Toss the pots in this room aside so you can see the green slotted tiles and move around freely.
Grab the white knight and stand on the white tile below the slotted tile on the left. Toss it to the right, and it will land in the other slotted tile. Grab the black knight, stand on the black tile below the white knight, and toss it left. When it lands in the slotted tile, the doors will open.
Go through the left door. In the next room, go down the stairs to enter a tunnel. To get across, use the Pegasus Boots to sprint across. If you time it perfectly, you can jump right over the obstacle in the middle and keep sprinting. Climb the ladder on the right to exit the tunnel. When you come back up, defeat the three Pols Voice.
Go through the door at the top of the screen when the doors open. Toss the pots in this room or cut them with the Koholint Sword to get through the room.
Make your way to the top of the room and go through the door there. Go up the stairs on your left to open the chest to get Rupees. Hop off the platform to the right to land on the blue pillars. Defeat the Star and hit the crystal so the blue pillars go down. Grab the black knight and stand on the blue pillar in the lower-left corner of the group.
Toss it to the right so it lands in the slotted tile. Grab the white knight and stand on the white tile four spaces to the left of the black knight. Toss the piece left, and it will land in the slotted tile. You may leave the way you came in. Traverse the room with pots and Sparks. In the next room where you fought the Pols Voice, go through the bottom door.
These function identically to the version you fought earlier except that there are pits that act as walls for them. If you need to get some distance to collect yourself and strategize, you can jump across the pit in the NE corner to stand at the base of the stairs. Feed each of them three bombs to defeat them.
Go through the door on the left after defeating them. Go up a little bit and shoot the Hookshot through the gap to hit the wooden block on the left.
Unlock the pyramid and travel north. Toss one of the pots at the chest to unlock it. Open it to get the Nightmare Key. Make sure the crystal is orange before heading back south. Drop in to the water and follow the water south. At the end, climb out and go through the nearby door.
Defeat the two Wizrobes and go up the stairs on the left side of the room. At the top, hop down to the right to land on the raised orange pillars. Stay on the orange pillars and go up one space so you can jump across the lowered blue pillar onto the raised orange pillar in front of the steps.
Hop off onto the stairs, jump over the blade trap, and follow the raised pathway through the NE door. Open it up to claim the Special Medicine. When you have it, hop down and go through the door to the left. Return to the Mini-Boss room and go through the northern door.
Go down the stairs. When you come out of the tunnel into the room with the orange tiles, go through the southern door. The next room has a Vacuum Mouth in the middle of a pit with Green Slimes around the outside. If you stay against the wall as you move, the Green Slimes will appear and likely get sucked into the pit before they can attack. Stand against the right wall and wait for the Vacuum Mouth to stop. As soon as it does, sprint left, jump across the pit at the Vacuum Mouth, and swing your sword in midair to destroy the Vacuum Mouth.
Clear any remaining Green Slimes and go through the SE door. Watch out for the statue in the SE corner of the next room. It will shoot lasers whenever the eye sees you. Jump across the gap and either shoot it with arrows or bomb it.
Whenever the statue shoots at you, jump to avoid the attack. When the Wizrobe is defeated, push a block out of the way and go through the northern door.
The final room before the Nightmare has eight braziers in it. Two of them are not lit. If you have the Boomerang, you can use it to kill the two Sparks for rewards.
